I think I have the answer to all your problems in two words!
Lip. Stain. (!)

-You can layer it to make your red pack a punch, or leave it subtle. Especially if you're unsure how you'll look in red.

-It does *not* kiss off onto babies, napkins, or teeth!

-You can put whatever gloss you like over-top, or just put on chapstick for the rest of the day-- soo low maintenance.

-Tons of applicator types from liquid brushed on to marker-like exactness!

You won't be sorry, Benefit's Benetint/gloss on the go is great for natural rosiness but more red with layering. And there are a tonne of drug store ones :)

I totally had a silver caboodle (that I purchased from claire's in the seventh grade) and used up until age 23 when it fell apart.

Oh, my gosh! Your church story totally made me giggle. In a way, doing something slightly drastic like wearing red lipstick is almost easier around strangers. Because they don't know how you look every other day, you know? I'm pretty sure if I wore the red lips around people who know me well, they'd be like, "WHAT IS THIS." But you never know. ;)

I love seeing new faces around here. ;) And I say you should still go for the red lips—I almost think it's easier for girls with small lips/mouths to wear such a dynamic color. Try it! Even if you just wear it at home for the day while wearing yoga pants. I don't judge.

That colour is so pretty! I don't wear as much makeup as some girls in my class, but I do wear a bit, mainly for confidence. I feel like just a coat of lipstick could do the job of foundation, blush and eyeliner!
