who I am (at the moment)...

Who I am (at the moment) | yourwishcake.com
I am…

…reading Desperate by Sarah Mae and Sally Clarkson, and it has me thinking so much about the importance of creating community, and seeking out both people who are in your same place in life and those who have already been there (and somehow got through it). I have so many thoughts on this book, so I'm sure I'll be sharing more later. But for now, let's just say reading each chapter has been like a breath of fresh air.

…coming up with a list of things I want to start making from scratch. Or at least try making from scratch. First on my list? All-purpose cleaner, hair detangler, marinara sauce, and some sort of bread. Wish me luck, because I most surely need it.

…grateful for having some time with my older sister (and brother-in-law and nephew!) who are currently in town. I wish so much that I could see her more than once or twice a year. Oh, distance. You are not my friend.

…fighting the urge to keep all the windows open all day long, just to let in this perfect October breeze.

…catching up on the past few seasons of 19 Kids and Counting. (TLC reality shows are truly my guilty pleasure.) Since getting rid of cable, the only channel I really miss every now and again is TLC. So, when Netflix is updated with new episodes of my favorite shows, I get a tad bit giddy. No shame!

…loving how polite my daughter is. Granted, she has her terrible-two moments, but there are things she does that make me realize how thoughtful and sweet she is. She'll say, "Job, mommy!" (Good job, mommy!) when I'm coloring with her. When she wakes up from her nap and she notices I've painted my toenails or have on a different outfit, she'll say, "Oh, pretty, mommy!" If I sneeze somewhere in the house, I'll hear this tiny voice shout, "Bess you!" (Bless you!) And my favorite phrase of the moment is her reaction to any explanation I give her throughout the day, "Oh, dat's nice." I explain to her that daddy is at work? "Oh, dat's nice." I tell her I am making ravioli for dinner? "Oh, dat's nice." I say that a baby cat is called a kitten? "Oh, dat's nice." Yes, this mama thing is pretty fantastic.

…appreciating the people in my life who take the time to challenge me and encourage me. I need it more that I probably admit.

…dreaming of an entirely new autumn wardrobe, even though I know it's an impossibility. (That doesn't keep me from oooh-ing and ahh-ing over the gorgeous ensembles I see on Pinterest!)

…realizing I need to get a bit more creative with locations for my iPhone picture-taking, because the photo in this post is almost identical to the one in my sidebar. Ah, well. What can I say (except for don't judge me?) The light through our front window is my favorite.

…in love with Halloween books, pumpkin spice candles, caramel macchiato coffee creamer, and the fact that my hair is so long that I can feel it swishing across my elbows throughout the day.

  1. Your daughter is adorable!!! :D I have a few "from scratch" projects myself, but I've NEVER done one, so... yeah. Anything and everything Autumn and Halloween related is a major win for me! I love your picture! I'd never judge. <3

  2. I feel like, every autumn I want an entirely new wardrobe. It's like -- I KNOW I can't have it, but I WANT it.

    1. Thank you so much, Rachael! And thanks for the compliment on my blog design—I've actually never ventured into designing anything for other people, because I don't feel like my self-taught level of skill is up to par. But it's something I've been thinking about a bit more lately…if only I could magically become a bit more brave. :)
