on "It Works" wraps (a review)...

ETA: These are detoxifying wraps, and not weight loss wraps. Just to clarify my original review!

When I was contacted by my sweet friend Natali about doing a review for the It Works wrap, my excitement was twofold. First of all, I was eager to help promote my friend and her business (which has been crazy-successful for her and her family!), and also I was just curious—plain and simple. I've seen a bit of buzz about this product, and always wondered if it would actually work.

I'm not one to try fad diets (unless you count the approximate 12 hours I lasted on the Special K diet before going borderline homicidal), but I like that this product isn't all like, "Put this on while you eat an entire box of pizza rolls and you will lose all the weight you dreamed of and will end up being really tan, too!"

The body wraps are super easy to use, and the whole magic behind them is their ability to remove the toxins from your body both while wrapping, and also for 72 hours after wrapping. It sounds crazy, I'm fully aware. However, I'm pleased to report that they actually did work for me.

Here is my experience (sans before-and-after photos, because creeps be creepin'):

I applied the wrap in the morning, after taking my 3 around-the-waist measurements (across the belly button, 3" above, and 3" below). To keep the wrap in place, I used a significant amount of cling wrap, which resulted in my daughter shouting out, "TUMMY?!" every time I tried to cover leftovers for the next several days. (This is where I admit I will probably not be doing this—with her around, at least—now that she's old enough to pay attention to these things. I don't want her to think her mother is absolutely insane.)

Anyway, back to the wrap!

You're encouraged to drink a fairly intense amount of water while wrapping (it helps jumpstart the whole process, from what I understand) and also drink a lot of water for the next 72 hours after the wrap, as it continues to work. Suffice to say, I probably shouldn't have left the house for any of those days because my bladder is the size of a cashew, and there was one specific moment in CVS when I was fairly sure I was about to lose all my dignity as a human being. But I didn't, so…thank you, Jesus.

And once again, back to the wrap!

I wore the wrap for about an hour, then took my measurements an hour after that. When I added up all three measurements, I was already 2" smaller. And after the 72 hours, I'd lost a total of 4" (when adding up all three measurements), 2" of that being around around the middle of my belly alone. Crazy, right? I know. I should also mention that I didn't change my diet during the process (although, it's not like I eat too-terribly, so I don't recommend guzzling a whole bunch of high fructose corn syrup while hoping for good results).

I was surprised by how easily I was able to achieve pretty impressive results. And I could tell a difference in the way my clothes fit for weeks after doing the single wrap.

I would definitely recommend the wrap to anyone who:

  1. …is also living a generally healthy lifestyle, but would like a little bit of a boost. I read a review elsewhere in which someone mentioned that the results are so encouraging to people, that they get excited to make healthier choices in order to maintain what they accomplished with the wraps. I thought that was such a great way to put it.
  2. …has the means to buy something like this. I'm not sure this is something I'd be able to afford to do on a regular basis, but I know enough people my age who treat them selves to massages, mani/pedis, and blowouts. It could be worth a try to switch one of your regular indulgences with a wrap, no?
I am glad I had the chance to try the wrap at this point in my life. I am grateful to be able to look at my "before" photos and "after" photos with the same appreciation, you know? I feel like I was able to assess the product, my experience, and personal results with a level-head (and without picking myself apart or trying to achieve some sort of "perfection"). Which is pretty freeing, actually.

I was initially a little worried about how doing this review on my blog would come across, especially because I want to shout from the rooftops: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, LADIES! But I know that we all have things that are frustrating and annoying (especially after having a baby or two or three), and I thought I'd share my experience, just in case it could help someone else.

I was provided a free wrap for writing this review. As always, all opinions are mine and mine alone! Cross my heart.

  1. Very interesting. I feel like these wraps are going around a lot lately... even local friends (I live in Nashville) are doing it.

So the effects of one wrap could theoretically last if you maintain the healthy lifestyle?

    1. I'm not exactly sure! I guess to me, personally, I can't imagine using these wraps on a regular basis (and I don't like the idea of relying on a wrap, you know?) so I like the idea of using one (or buying the pack, if you are able to afford it) and using the results as a jumping-off point if you're eager to make some healthy changes in your lifestyle.

  2. This makes me sad. I can't help it.

    1. May I ask why? You can email me if you'd like! (wishcakeblog@gmail.com)

  3. In regards to the length of time the results last - typically 4-6 months, but potentially indefinitely, depending on lifestyle. The wraps don't cause water weight loss, which other spa wraps do, so the results are long-lasting (not to mention It Works! wraps are SO much more affordable- less than $15 a wrap if you do the deal to get wholesale pricing).

I love the wraps because I see them lift the confidence of women who's tummies have stretched a bit after carrying babies, or women who've lost weight and are left with lose skin, and even women who are very fit, and have worked hard to be that way, but are just not as toned as they'd like to be. The wraps are great for firming, tightening and toning the body. They're not meant to supersede healthy habits, and they're made with all natural, safe, active ingredients. I'm happy to answer any other questions. :-)
