on where to go from here (and a thank you)...

The feedback I received on Tuesday's post really means the world to me. Thank you, thank you. It feels good (as always) to not feel so alone in my thoughts on the matter, and your encouraging words have (as always) helped me work through a lot of things within the past couple days.

I should know by now that the moment I decide to truly break away from this blog, that I will have a big rush of inspiration and be more eager to write than ever. (Yep, it happens every time.) But this time around, I'm going to be sure to follow-through with my desire to keep things a bit simpler.

I'm working on my layout a bit, trying to make it feel more like home again.

I've also made the decision to not renew my contract with my current blog ad network. Come July, I'll have more control over the content that is featured as sponsorship. I went back and forth with the whole blog ad thing, and decided that if I kept it simple and offered a handful of spaces to feature small businesses, blogs, and Etsy shops, that it wouldn't feel like a bother (and hopefully won't come across as though I'm doing it just for a paycheck each month—although, as we all know, every little bit helps in this day and age!).

I'm no longer going to promote my posts on any social media, because I think that will help me write what I want to write, when and how I want to write it, without hesitation. It probably sounds weird, but this really makes me want to blog again. It's so much less about promoting myself, trying to get pageviews, hoping for retweets and more subscribers. I'll write, and at this point the posts will stay here and here alone.

Things may change later on, but for now I'm just going to stay away from other social media. I never thought I'd be able to stray from my beloved Twitter, but since I don't even turn on my computer every day, and I'm very much without a phone that does anything remotely fancy, I've found that checking it on a regular basis is so difficult. (In the dark ages, I remain.) I'll probably pop on here and there, but given how much time I have for things, it probably won't be all too often.

I'm hoping to rekindle some friendships through these small changes, and hopefully take time to write about a lot that has been on my heart lately.

As always, thank you to those who have taken the time to read my ramblings of the past, and to those who continue to follow along in the future. You're all gems.

  1. I read your post from yesterday and identified with it so much-- I too feel a bit lost when it comes to blogging these days.

I'm so glad you'll continue to blog when you can and to really just be YOU on here. I hope it's a happy place for you. Because I love your dear blog and your sweet self. I still think of you as a dear bloggy friend, even though SO much has changed since the days of yore when we first got to "know" one another. :)

  2. Love your new sidebar pic! Also, I love you and and so thrilled to hear you are going to stick around the blogosphere.... but you've inspired to work on being better about communicating with you outside of social media. :) *makes a note to remedy this*

  11. I have been following your blog for quite a few years now. Its so crazy to randomly find someones blog across the country and come to find out that you have so much in common with this person. I hope that you continue to blog, I always look forward to each new post, just to catch up on whats new with you and your little family! And although I understand, because Im the same way, dont let those idiots bring you down about what you choose to write about. Its your blog, not theirs and they dont have to read it if they dont like it. Anyways, I just wanted to say, you have a BFF in VA, and Im going to miss you on Twitter! :)

  15. Loving these changes you're making--it's so refreshing (and encouraging!) to hear when bloggers dedicate blogging to writing and their passions instead of pageviews and followers. :)

  18. I wish I was good at staying away from social media. I get so sucked in. I like what you said about not promoting yourself because that isn't what it's really about!
