on a (pink and ruffled) announcement...

We were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time during my "belly" appointment today. Since the wee one didn't cooperate at our last ultrasound, I felt the need to beg my doctor to give us another ultrasound today. I wasn't trying not to get my hopes up, so I didn't tell many people about it. But, honestly? I just really (really, really, really) wanted to know what we were having. Jay, too. I'm not good when it comes to changing plans (just ask my husband) and since we had decided to find out since the beginning, I couldn't imagine waiting until the actual birth for the surprise.

So, as it turns out, the nurse who usually does ultrasounds was right around the corner and wasn't busy. When we asked about having one done, he shrugged, smiled and guided us down the hall. Immediately.

Needless to say, it felt like Christmas. And I wanted to kiss him on the mouth a little bit.

Once we were settled in and the nurse started the ultrasound, it was obvious. Well, at least to me, because I've hunted down enough ultrasound photos to know what girl parts look like on the screen. I saw the three lines and almost squealed. I held my breath and waited for him to confirm it.

"It's definitely a girl."

My heart did flips, I was speechless, Jay and I grinned at each other, and it just felt…right. The past few weeks I've been so confident it was a little girl floating around in there and it was just an incredible moment to find out for sure. (Also, conveniently enough, most of you had guessed pink instead of blue on this post!) I'm absolutely thrilled and blessed and so, so thankful. Not just that I get to have a daughter, but that she is healthy, growing, sporadically modest, and kicking away at my bladder all the livelong day.

If you need me, I'll be sitting in the corner, freaking out (in the best way possible) while dreaming of ruffled headbands and listening to Raffi. Amen.
