on ten (brave) things...

ten things I would do if I were truly brave:

1. Write a novel.
2. Become a brunette.
3. Sing more. With confidence. In public.
4. Say what I want to say when I want to say it.
5. Have a booth at a craft fair.
6. Consider myself a real photographer.
7. Fight any and all negative feedback.
8. Sing my own praises, when needed.
9. Splurge more often.
10. Love every tiny bit of the body I’ve been blessed with.

  7. These are all wonderful things. And one can't help but think that you could marry numbers 3 and 8 to go ahead and sing your own praises. With confidence. In public. It wouldn't be a bad thing to do.

    Also, the gorgeous items in your Etsy shop are precisely the types of lovelies I always beeline toward at craft fairs. I predict wild success for your booth, once you register one.

  8. Love the list. Especially number 10. That would probably be number 3 or 4 on my list. I would write a novel, too. And instead of becoming a brunette, I'd become a blonde!

  10. You should take one item on that list and try to accomplish it by the end of the year.

    I suggest going brunette. It will be easy to go back blonde if you don't like it. I dye my hair often and it's fairly easy to do it yourself and it won't damage your hair like everyone will have you believe.

  12. This is a great list of *achieveable* quantities of bravery!

    I used to have really long red hair, which I felt was my identification badge in a lot of ways. I felt the need for change at one point so I went and cut it all off - such a risk but one of the best (and bravest!) things I've ever done - go brunette, it'll make you feel so strong and powerful to make such an abrupt change!

    As for 4,7,8 and 10; surely they are simply works in progress? You can practise those every day!

  13. I'm still working at a lot of those, Kerri. Especially speaking my mind at all times and loving my body. I criticize my body every time i look in the mirror, i tend to find something wrong with it. I avoid confrontation with people, but that makes me unhappy in the end because there are many things left unsaid.

    Good luck on working on yourself to be brave in everything. I definitely think you should have your own booth in craft fairs because you're talented and a lot of people have told you that they love your products.:)

  19. You know... I'm not sure about fighting negative feedback. Even if people are nasty, I have found when someone says something negative about me, if I can get past my emotions and defensiveness and just LISTEN, there is sometimes (not always) a nugget of truth in there that I can use to grow and improve myself. Hurts to hear it but sometimes I need it.

    But the other ones... what's stopping you? Fear is not a good reason to not do something you want to do, it just keeps us stagnant. What about breaking it into small chunks so it doesn't seem to scary? Like, just write a plot outline for your novel to start off? Or just write 5 pages?

  26. adore adore adore this list! actually, pretty much adore everything about this blog. we're pretty similar, especially on being all to familiar with that whole "good girl" persona. i'm pretty much "overachieving white girl" winner from 1996-2009. :)

    And you should go brunette and try it out! I'm going to do something funky with my hair this summer and go blonde, something I've never done before.

  31. I need to splurge less. maybe try doing one brave thing a year on your list and then it will eventually all come together. I also want to try being a brunette some time, now's the time to do it when we're younger, right?

  32. You're so cute!! I have written a novel and the braveness starts afterwards -there's so much work to do afterwards. The end of the writing isn't it unfortunately.
    And as for wanting to say things as you feel them -don't. I do it far too often and it gets me into trouble. I would hold my tongue if I were braver. I think it takes more courage xx (and energy)
