on a few bits & pieces...

the girl and the camera.

I have so many thoughts swirling around in my head these days, and I'd really love to write them all down thoughtfully and coherently. I just don't see that happening. You know how that is, sometimes? I have so much to say, so much to write - I just can't seem to make sense of it all. Good things, mostly. Don't get me wrong. These days I'm a very happy girl. But, for now, I'll resort to a few jumbled thoughts to express what I've been up to lately:

  1. I've been doing so much thinking about my state of mind, and how I have so much power over my own happiness. It's such an obvious thing, really, but so difficult to actually put into practice. Sometimes I feel like I have to repeat, "I can't control what happens, but I can control my reaction!" over and over and over. Maybe someday it will actually come naturally to me to react to things in a positive way, and not feel the need to throw a tantrum over spilt milk (or a messy kitchen).
  2. The book Every Woman's Marriage by Shannon & Greg Ethridge has consumed quite a bit of my life the last few days. It is the perfect book for me to be reading right now. Although it is written by Christians, it is so incredibly real and not preachy at all - I love how the authors don't hesitate to show their own flaws and struggles as a married couple. That is what people really need to hear, you know? The authors are sometimes brutally honest, and it is incredibly encouraging to read. It gives me so much to relate to...and a lot of things to challenge myself on.
  3. I am presently obsessed with season one of Sex and the City (finally watching it for the first time!), figuring out the whoosits and whatsits of my camera (it is highly frustrating at times), the fact that plaid is making a huge comeback this season (time to bust out all my old western shirts), and the colors yellow and gray.
  4. For some reason, I don't know if I'll ever be brave enough to change my hair color to anything except the good ol' blond. Half of me wants to be brave and go for a strawberry-blond reddish color like this photo or this photo (the twin on the right). But I'm scared. (I think someone needs to come to the salon with me tomorrow and hold my hand in order for me to actually do it.)
  5. I finally created my own review blog: your wishcake reviews! I've recently had a few fabulous opportunities, and I definitely want to share them with everyone. Due to the ads I have on this blog, I'm not able to go into great detail about all of these things. I figured it would be nice to have a place to talk about stuff I've been able to get (for freee!), things that I happen to be in love with, and other odds and ends I feel the need to review. To start things off, I'm hosting a giveaway - check out the blog for all the info, lovelies!

And that's about it, I guess. I'm feeling encouraged more and more these days. I still have moments where I struggle with self-pity and the whole "the grass is always greener" thing, but I am blessed beyond anything I could have asked for. And sometimes I feel like wonderful is just around the corner - which is pretty much the best feeling ever, right?

  2. Thanks for just being real. I feel like when you have these posts where you just have some random thoughts, it's not really random at all. And sometimes you actually manage to get inside my head, which is totally weird but refreshing. I hope that made sense.

PS - don't you LOVE the camera?!

  3. Congratulations on the new review blog (your first post was so cute!) and I think that's really awesome about Every Woman's Marriage, and how they were honest about their struggles. I find that it's kind of the same with blogs, I really appreciate it when someone is honest about their difficult moments. I tend to hide all my bad moments away, and only post about the good ones, so I really admire people who are brave enough to post about the bad times too.

  5. You said a lot that I wanted to comment on. Let's seeee....

First of all. I <3 plaid. Also, I can't believe you just now are watching sex and the city!!! Tisk, Tisk! I've watched every episode at least ten times. I'm also scared to change my hair color... I'm afraid to cut it too... so I totally understand!

Oh, and the happiness thing. I agree and have been working on that too. Nothing can stop you from being happy but yourself. Once you get ahold of it, even for second, it's so liberating.

And congrats on all the free stuff! I'd be lieing if I didn't say I was jealous! ;)

  6. I am so glad that you're enjoying Sex and the City! In my opinion, the series only gets better and better! No matter how old you are or what your dating experience, there's stuff in there for every woman!

You are absolutely gorgeous by the way!

  7. I love the little images of you that you include, they're so priceless! I wish I could do the self portrait like you do. You should give classes. Or do a video blog.

That sounds like a really interesting book, thanks for the recommendation, and good luck with your review blog!

  8. I wanted to ask you, too. Who did your blog design. It's simple, and pretty, and I need a design like that. If you get a min, I would love to know. Thanks!

  10. I say go for the hair change! I never thought I'd have the guts to colour my hair dark brown and I just did tonight. I love it. I love the change. I love knowing that I can go back to my natural colour if I stop loving it :)

  11. Your first point is a good lesson for me, seeing how many times I criticize myself harder than anybody and feel like a huge failure.

Anyhoo, I'm glad you enjoy satc. I do too! Season 1 is prolly one of the best seasons, everyone is still younger and making many mistakes in relationships lol no burden yet!

  12. I love the plaid shirt you're wearing in the picture! And you should definitely go for the hair color change! I'm always switching my hair color, but always find my way back to blonde. The good thing with the strawberry blonde is that it will be so easy to go right back to blonde. Go for it :). The color will be perfect for fall.

Also? that "I control my own happiness" thing? I'm struggling with that a LOT right now. Well said, lady.

I love that colour hair. I think maybe you should go for it. Or at least try it temporarily you might love it.

  33. For the life of me, I've been trying to figure out why Shannon Ethridge sounded so familiar... & then I realized that she wrote the book The Sexually Confident Wife, which I think I told you about. That is an amazing book, as well. Very, very enlightening & not at all preachy. I'll have to check the other one out, too. :]

  34. I think you would be SO cute with strawberry blonde hair! GO for it Kerri! The good thing about that color is that it wont be too hard at all to find your way back to blonde if you don't love it!
I can't imagine you not being adorable tho :D
