on a few bits & pieces for the weekend...

a bit of string.

First of all, I must say I was overwhelmed by the sweet birthday comments on my last post! (Over 150 comments? Sweet mother of mercy. You guys are my heroes.) I was so touched that I'm pretty sure my heart melted into a wee little puddle. It was good times. So, for those of you who were de-lurking, thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to share a few little quirks about yourselves. It only makes me love you more, after all. And for those who I already know and adore, your words mean just as much to me, too! (Wine and taquito party. My place. Ten minutes. BE THERE.)

To all of you who took the time to write me a note, thank you for making my birthday that much brighter.

(Squishy baby face approves.)

Second of all, my birthday ended up being quite nice. Jay treated me to brunch by the beach in the morning, then it was off to work for the next eight hours. At work, I ended up being treated to cake (heck, yes), a bunch of balloons (which were soon tied to the back of my chair, which was obviously my ploy for attention) and, later on in the evening, a startling rendition of "Happy Birthday" which was sung by a Japanese tourist who otherwise didn't know a lick of English (it was the greatest moment of my life, almost). After work, we made it just in time for late-night Happy Hour, and met a couple friends there to enjoy some drinks and greasy food, late on a Tuesday night.

It was good. And twenty-five feels pretty nice. I'm not going to lie.

In other news:

  1. I'm basically a crafting machine. I love weeks where my creativity has been sparked and I'll stay up late making new things and still feel like there is more I could do! Stay tuned for some new items - and, yes, one of these days I'll be posting photos of the crafting nook and/or cranny.
  2. Exercise and I are not on speaking terms. I don't want to talk about it.
  3. Also, I'm the hot mess who thought it would be a good idea to eat Coldstone cake batter ice cream (with crushed Butterfinger, obviously) for dinner last night. Probably the greatest dinner of my life. And a reminder not to weigh myself for the next five days. Nice.
  4. My heart has felt so full of thanks in the last few weeks. I can hardly express how much the kindness of my friends and family has lightened my mood and made my soul giddy these days. It's as though there is always someone there to do something to brighten my day, to make me feel less alone when I'm hurting, or to offer encouragement at the exact moment I need it. "Thank you" doesn't even cut it anymore. I'm ready to go on a hugging spree. (Watch out.)
  5. Is it Winter yet? Because if this heatwave doesn't end soon, I'm pretty sure I am going to have to physically assault someone. I wish I was kidding, but I AM NOT KIDDING.

  1. Board a plane to Illinois, stat. It's 56 degrees right now, perfect fall weather. We could go for a fallish bike ride in cute fall clothes and drink apple cider. Seriously. Visit. Now.

  8. Cutest ice cream photo ever? I think so.

I haven't had a chance to attack you with hugs yet myself, so if you go on a hugging spree... well... that'll be a lot of hugging. Just saying.

I am so happy you had a wonder birthday, because, well, YOU DESERVE NOTHING LESS.

If you visit Belle Renee, TAKE ME! Her fall plan sounds awesome. Why don't we get a real autumn in CA? Seriously.

  11. ice cream for dinner is the BEST! No need to feel guilty. You should only feel guilty if you deny yourself of a treat every once in awhile. :)
Glad to hear you had a great birthday!

  13. p.s. I feel your pain with wanting fall weather. I moved into my tiny, no a.c. dorm last weekend and only brought 1 fan. What in the WORLD was I thinking?!?! It's nice here today and STILL hot in my room. UGH!

  14. I have that little Ikea wall hangy basket deal (I win at describing things) in my kitchen :) Go figure!

You should come over some time and we could go craft crazy in my craft room. Good times.

  16. Oh goodness, I was on a workout and health roll, and then I became unmotivated. I haven't worked out in a week and a half and I pretty much ate a Snickers Ice Cream bar at 12:30AM last night. Gross, I know.
I blame the heat. It makes me hate the world.

And yay for craftiness. I look forward to new things in your Etsy shop. =D

  17. I'll trade my winter for your summer - seriously! It'd be nice to be warm and dry instead of wet and frozen! :)

  18. I hear you about the heat... it's over 100°F again today and I just want to sit still and don't move an inch.

Ice Cream dinners are the best!

  22. In a serious heat wave, what the fuck are you supposed to have for dinner if it's not ice cream??

    ReplyDelete
  23. This heat is really unbearable. Can you smell smoke from your place? We can smell it here and it makes me want to stay inside until the end of summer.

  24. We had ice cream for dinner tonight! The hubs said it was 104 at my house today way up in SanFran! You guys must be scorched down there!

  25. Dude, I've been avoiding exercise ever since my friend sent me this Time magazine article titled EXERCISE WON'T MAKE YOU SKINNY. I was like, well, ok then. Let's sit around and eat more cheese.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can't handle the heat anymore either. It's even hot with the dang beach breeze!!! I almost died in Anaheim today, couldn't wait to get back home to HB!!!!

  27. Its winter here! a balmy 21 celcius. I have my heater on.
This time last year, I was touring through Florida, being chased by a hurricane... and today I actually wished for that deathly hot, so humid you feel like you're suffocating weather. Dreamy sigh.

  28. I like my coldstone cake batter ice cream with sprinkles...mmmm....so yummy....

  29. I COMPLETELY understand about the heat wave, oh my goodness. I don't think it's been below 98 degrees (no reference to the boy band, although Nick is quite hot) for the past 3 months. Seriously, we had 64 days of over 100 degree temperatures. It was insane. But then again, we have central AC so it's not so bad. But still. Insane.

  30. your photos are always so lovely. can't wait to see all the new craftiness! <3

    Our HEATWAVE conversation:

'Ju, what would you give up for a pool in our backyard right now?'
    'What do you mean?'
'Well personally, I'd give a toe. So, something along those lines.'
'Seriously? Trade a toe for a massive amount of water? Of course I'm in. Sign me up!'

Of course when the weather cooled down a couple weeks later, we were both glad we still had a combined twenty toes, but at the time? Totally reasonable. Basically, I understand the need to physically assault.

    Oxo.

  35. Aww, I'm so happy that you had a lovely birthday! Those are the best!

I know how you feel about the heat. It hasn't broken just yet here, but the temperatures of fall are slowly sneaking in. I seriously cannot wait. Maybe it'll happen at the same time for both of us? I hope so.

  36. I'm SO glad that your birthday was wonderful!! And YES--post pictures of this crafting nook please!! :)
