on my mornings...

in the morning.

I'm definitely fan of mornings. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm a morning person, per se.

Morning to me is that time between 7:30 and 10:30, when the sunlight shines through the window in the kitchen in just the right way. It makes me look at the left-over dishes in the sink and think, "You know what? They can wait." It can make anything seem warm, inviting and okay the way it is.

It's the weekday mornings that make me thankful for working evenings, and having two days off during the week (even though it means that I must survive through those ridiculously early morning shifts every weekend). I rarely wake before 8:30 (I require mass amounts of sleep - just ask my husband) and love being able to sleep until I feel like waking up in the mornings. Of course, the last few days I've been wide awake at 7:30 and decided against forcing myself to sleep for another hour, just for the principal of it all.

It was nice. I almost made myself coffee, but then I remembered that I don't drink coffee unless it involves mass amounts of sugar and chocolate. Ah, well. It's the thought that counts.

In any case, I love my calm, lazy mornings. I love sitting on the couch, bowl of cereal in my hands, checking my email on Jay's laptop (which is usually plopped on my legs). I usually am wearing my pajamas until eleven. I'm not even going to lie about that. Even though I usually have a list of things to get done before leaving for work at 1:00, I usually find myself just sitting around, cleaning up the duplex, watching things like The View, my local news and A Haunting (all equally disturbing, at times), enjoying the place all to myself, and just trying to work on my perspective for the rest of the day.

I realize just how much of a homebody I am. But, you know what? I don't mind. I rather like it, actually.

  1. I am the exact same way. I love how my "weekends" are two days in the middle of the week. I love going into work at 1pm two days a week, making that at least four days a week I can sleep in. My real weekends are exhausting, as I'm usually trying to keep up with my M-F friends but I wouldn't have it any other way! :)

  2. I have that same spice rack! I agree about the mornings. I am not a morning person either BUT they do bring so much possibility! I also, go to work at 1, so I try to optimize my day prior. =)

  4. I am not a morning person either, but I do enjoy the solitude they can bring. Sleeping until I just wake up is one of my favorite things.

  6. I absolutely love having morning time like this. It's been awhile since I've really had time to pause in the mornings before my workday begins. This morning was no exception, but I had enough time to get ready at a leisurely pace, sitting on the hallway floor in front of the full-length mirror outside of my roommate's room while she sat on her floor in front of her mirror. We drank coffee and gossiped while doing makeup and hair before the Wednesday began... It's like... all is right with the day in the morning. LOVE it!

  7. Awe, i LOVE lazy mornings... although I never get them.... because I either wake up too late to call it a morning or I am always late for work.
So it was nice to hear about though :)

  8. I honestly think we are soul sisters. I *love* the morning. LOVE it. I work 6-2 monday thru friday, but I have weekends off, and I have so much gratefulness (that's a word, right? I don't care) for the weekend mornings. Making that cup of creamy coffee and watching the birds at the bird feeder. Turning on the tube, and relaxing in my PJs. Ahhhh, heaven.

  10. I love mornings too. . . wishing I was home in my sunny kitchen right now instead of at work.

  11. I love the mornings - I'm at work at 8 so I end up waking up at 6:30 and dozing while listening to the radio for a half hour or so.

You kitchen has such beautiful light! That must be dreamy to drink chocolatey coffee in.

  12. I love lazy mornings! They're the absolute best!

  13. I ALSO have that same spice rack!

Although some of my guy friends in college thought it would be hil-aaaar-ious to steal it. (Yes, they had been drinking. Of course.) They dropped it and a few of the caps broke.

It was sad. But I kept it. :) Because I am classy.

Last year, I work 11am-8pm and loved the mornings. But now I work 8:30am-5pm and love the hours I have in the evening even more! :) Because I tended to not actually do much in the mornings before work...More like, sleep...and maybe make pancakes.

    Good times.

  14. I had one of those moments this morning... woke up to the sunlight flooding into our kitchen and guest bedroom. Seriously don't know if there is a better feeling. :)

  15. You work in retail or something? I worked retail the first 6 months of my marriage, and honestly felt like I had never seen my husband. But I was also in college so a lot of my not working time was spent at school. But I honestly felt like I never saw him. He left for work while I was still sleeping, then by the time I would get home from work and school it would be time for him to go to bed to get up the next morning... and I usually worked weekends, so I left before he got up... I wont do it again, well with my daughter now I REFUSE. Though now I "work" from home and in my pajamas most the day... ok I watch 2 boys... so why get dressed? thats just more laundry.. haha..

Im glad your schedule works for you and you love it, its important. Makes working a little easier.

  16. You said it perfectly- I'm not a morning person either, but there is something about the way the sunlight shines through the window and bring so much possibility. It's inspiring, in a way.

  17. I love mornings like that. And like you, I require massive amounts of sleep. Oh, and I'm jealous of that spice rack!

    Your sunny mornings sound lovely.

  18. Oh my god, you sound EXACTLY like me when I was working. I would sleep in until 8:30, wearing my pajamas until about 11... & I would watch A Haunting, too! But I stopped because it was scaring the crap out of me.

I love mornings too; especially a morning like this, where it's cooler outside & there is a breeze going through our curtains. I love that. :]

  19. Totally enjoyed this post and that picture!
I'm the same way, I do enjoy mornings, but I'm not necessarily a morning person. You said it perfectly.

  20. I want more of those kinds of mornings! I get up at 5:40 and am at work by 7... I get a three day weekend though and I try to use my weekend mornings to the fullest :)

  21. I am so not a morning person, so your work schedule has always sounded like heaven to me. Weekends are great though. I love staying in my PJs for as long as possible. Which is usually until about 1 when Cale says are you EVER going to shower today. And guilts me into it. Boo.

  22. I hate my 8 am morning classes. I can't function before at least 11 am. Why cant people see this?:P

  23. god I love those mornings too but dont seem to get them anymore as I am leaving for work when it is dark and on the weekends trying to "catch up" on my sleep as if that will ever happen.

love the light in your kitchen!

  24. This is 100% exactly how I am. I love being up during mornings, the mornings I can relish the warm of those lesser known hours. I rarely wake up before 8, but when my dog begs for me to take her out earlier, it's nice just to sit and take it all in. But in any case, I am very much a homebody, and I know what you mean.

Also, I requested to follow you on Twitter, and I saw your request. However, after I clicked on "accept," it disappeared, and so did your request. Whatever, Twitter is such a bitch sometimes.

  25. It seems like so many of us are staying home more - maybe because we really love reading your blog! Yes, but still, I know we stay in much more than we used to.

  26. So I've just signed up for the crazy impending Vegas adventure, and thus, I've been trying to catch up on everyone's blogs, and I have to say, every single post of yours that I've read has caused me to think "Me too!" at some point. Always looking forward, never appreciating where I am? Yep, me too. Thinking my life has been pretty easy, and completely understanding Charlotte's freak-out in SATC? Yep, me too. In other words, I'm really happy to have found your blog :)

And, yeah, mornings are awesome! I actually get mad at myself when I sleep in too much, because I hate missing the feeling of morning.

  27. I am a total morning person. The hours between 10-12 are my favorite.

I spend my time watching the View (because a group of women talking over top of each other helps get my day started), making a cup of coffee and JUST SITTING.

I never get any more time like that during the rest of the day so I love it.

  28. I'm more of a morning person than anything else. I too love the sun shining through in the morning makes me happy.
And I love to eat breakfast and have my laptop there clicking around. Though it's nice to sort of sleep in some days.

  29. I love days like that. It's pretty much every Sunday for me. I make sure that even though I get up at 5AM for work Mon-Fri and early Saturday for yoga class, I always get to cuddle with my husband and sleep as late as we want then order food, watch movies and spend all day in our pajamas if we want to. :)

P.S. I finished The Almost Moon, I really liked it. What did you think?

  30. I love lazy mornings! They don't happen often around my house, but it's always nice when they do.

I kinda like it when the morning sneaks up on me and I have the unexpected relaxing morning. Like the kind when you're in the middle of it before you realize "hey, look at me! I'm relaxing in my PJ's."

Thank you for your kind comments on my recent post! It really did put me in a better mood when I got the comment notice on my phone. Sometimes I just get all "blech" but then I come over to your blog or flickr or tumblr (or twitter or etsy or or or) and it's like a breath of fresh air. Thanks!!

  31. ah... mornings... the only way to make them better is if i didn't have to shower, do my hair and makeup. in a perfect world, that would all be done by the time i got out of bed.

  32. I'm with you, I do pretty much the same thing on the days I don't have to be at work until the afternoon. A lot of times I'm doing less than that, actually. ;)

  33. I adore lazy mornings... there's just something about that sunlight and getting that little bit of time to yourself to start the day the way you want to. I love reading my email with a nice cup of coffee. Having a good morning really helps to have a great day!

  34. I love that pic. I wish my kitchen looked like that. The pretty countertop, pretty faucet and cute little fruit bowl. Our kitchen is a metal unit from 1951 and it's a wreck. *sigh* I keep reminding myself that one day we'll own a house. I wish I were a morning person. Well, I wish I could not wait until 7:00 or 7:30 and be at work, say around, 10ish?! HAHA Of course get off work BEFORE 5. Whatever, not gonna happen. I currently wake at 5, out the door by 6:40, to work by 7:40, work until 4:40ish, home by 5:40 ish. Yeah, one hour drive going one way. Stinky.
