on our road trip: home again, safe again...

the great roadtrip, oh-nine.

You know you're on a road-trip when...

  1. you encounter a day of driving that will be no less than five hours, and that is considered "not so bad".
  2. you actually remember to fill up your tank before it has been on empty for the last thirty-six miles.
  3. Red Bull + Chex Mix = a totally acceptable dinner combination.
  4. you forget your cell phone charger at home, but decide that it doesn't matter because for once, you don't have to worry about making any phone calls.
  5. your GPS is basically your BFF.
  6. you are forced to listen to the entire Lil' Wayne (me, obviously) and Taylor Swift (him, obviously) albums way more than necessary.
  7. you discover that Red Bull stops tasting like acid mixed with sugar after the fourth can, and begin to actually like it.
  8. a sign reading "no services for the next 188 miles" means that you are forced to have a bladder of steel.
  9. you know that Motel 6 is lame because they don't feel the need to provide shampoo or free wireless internet, but Days Inn give you tons of extra pillows and have the greatest continental breakfast in the history of continental breakfasts.
  10. you actually start enjoying the Lil' Wayne album, and you catch your husband singing a Taylor Swift song to himself in the bathroom.
  11. games like "Whoever Sees a Bison First Wins" are a daily occurence.
  12. wearing the same outfit four days in a row is perfectly acceptable, because, hey, you're in a different state every day, so who is going to notice?
  13. you are reduced to having a random photo shoot in the car at least once per day.
  14. gas stations become very thrilling.
  15. you eat nothing but crap for two weeks and feel absolutely no shame.

We have returned from the great beyond, and I must say that it feels so good to be home. (Leave it to me to have an absolutely terrible cold for 90% of my vacation, too. I haven't been able to hear out of my right ear for the last five days. Bleh.) The last several days of the trip were good - aside from the fifteen minutes we were basically driving through a blizzard in Montana, as my life flashed before my eyes and I started wondering how long we could survive in the cold on a diet of Peeps and almonds, and what iPod playlist would be the best to die to.

No, really. It was scary. You don't even know.

In any case, we are home...safe and sound. We have started unpacking, are ready to go grocery shopping for fruits and vegetables and other healthy foods, have picked up our mail at the post office, can't wait to finish editing photos (and video!) from the last two weeks, and look forward to snuggling under our own sheets in our own bed tonight.

Also, I have about a million emails to catch up on, as well as the usual blog reading and such. I don't have to go back to work until Saturday, though - I still have a couple days to myself before returning to "real life". Yesssss.
