on the first day of the rest of our year...
Our New Years Eve consisted of baked nachos covered in guacamole and sour cream, copious amounts of champagne, a 30 Rock marathon, about seventeen rounds of Wii bowling, and a lot of trash talking. Good trash talking, of course. Because who doesn't throw out a little trash talk when competing with their husband at Wii bowling after four glasses of champagne? Seriously. I dare you not to.
And despite our being an old married couple, we did manage to stay awake all night and were able to kiss each other at midnight. Take THAT, you crazy kids and your crazy parties! In your face! We can get down!
(Or something like that.)
The photo above was taken this afternoon as we went about finishing off our last bottle of champagne. (I know. We're drinking it out of wine glasses. I swear we had champagne flutes last night. And could my eyes be any more squinty?) Earlier in the day we went on a wild goose chase for a Mario Cart game for our Wii, exchanged my broken camera tripod, had some yummy Subway sandwiches, went to see Seven Pounds (it's a sob-fest - I think I started crying five minutes into the movie), then came home to enjoy the rest of the evening together. We were lucky enough to spend a wonderful New Year's day with each other last year, and this year was absolutely awesome, as well. I'm hoping I can always spend the first day of the year running around with my favorite guy. Because, really? What a way to begin a year.
I have a feeling that 2009 is going to be absolutely wonderful. Don't you think so, too?

just thought i would say your blog is lovely :), it inspired me to start my own. My other half was away this new years so you were very lucky, what a great start :)
ReplyDeleteDid you ever find Mario Kart? I love it, have had ours for a little while :) I'm glad you told me that movie was a sob-fest...now I know NOT to see it in the theater :-/
ReplyDeletei'm so happy you guys had a good day together! :) and wait until you see MY nye pictures... you want to talk about squinty? a few drinks and i'm chinese. (no offense to anyone who is chinese, i'm just sayin...)
ReplyDeletehappy new year again! xoxo
i always thought i wanted to get married, and lately i'm not always so sure anymore, but everytime i read your blog i think "awwwwwh. i could do that." and that photo especially is giving me the big ol' marriage fever. stop it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou and the husband are absolutely adorable.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm pretty much the queen of the squinty eyed look. I have small eyes to begin with, but give me just one drink, and they practically disappear.
Glad your new year started off so well =)
gorgeous picture of you both; your evening sounded a lot like mine, minus the champagne. I was trash-talking jonathan all over the place (we were playing old school Nintendo). ;]
ReplyDeletehappy new year!
Aw! We kind of got to do the same thing! We just hung out all day and had fun together, it was so nice! We were with his family a lot too, did brunch with them...where he informed them that he and I would be getting married this year. :)
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm not "officially" engaged yet...but still, it was a lovely thing and and he was so cute telling his family like that.
Back to the point though, I also hope that the rest of your new year's days are spent enjoyed with your hubby! Sounds like our days couldn't have been better-spent. ;)
Happy New Year. I think it'll be a fabulous year as well.
ReplyDeleteYou and I had a similar holiday. Too much champagne/wine, lots of quality time, lots of good natured trash talk (we were playing Life, old school style), lots of fun errands the next day. Ah, good times.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute photo! Did you find Mario Kart? It's AMAZING, and much more competitive!
ReplyDeleteI love that photo! You captured the thoughts perfectly! Haha, well, maybe because they were your thoughts....anyywayyss I'm glad you had a great nye! I hope 2009 is just as wonderful as this past year!
ReplyDeletedid you ever find mario cart? because i've been looking for what seems like AGES!!! i went to chicago and none of the best buys there had them and the ones around my house don't have them and i call them EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. i'm sure they love me.
ReplyDeleteChampagne out of wine glasses is always the way to go!
ReplyDeleteToo funny... We drank our champagne out of martini glasses because I don't have champagne flutes, so no judgment here. In fact, once we ran out of champagne we drank beer out of the martini glasses as well...
ReplyDeleteOkay, I guess you can judge me a little for that one.
It sounds like you had a wonderful New Year's! I hope that 2009 is terrific for you and your husband. It does feel like it will be a great year.
ReplyDeleteI think 2009 is going to be such a great year with lots of love, laughter, and exciting adventures. I'm just as excited as you are. Here's to a great 2009 and to reading more of your wonderful posts in the months to come. Happy New Year!

Yes, this is going to be a wonderful year. It has to be, because last year (for me) was so... ugh.
ReplyDeleteI think it's going to be a great year too!
ReplyDeleteTotally had a New Year's Eve like your's. (With Friends and the Office Scene It, lots of Arrested Development, and a little kissing at midnight.)
ReplyDeleteAnd then stayed at home all day on New Years. Ahh, lazy days.
Happy New Year! It sounds like you had a fabulous day. :) And I love the "new" blog.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Kerri.

You should always use wine glasses for champagne, you get more in that way!
xx
a very good start indeed! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteCute post and even cuter pic! ;-)
ReplyDeletevery cute! have a great 2009!
ReplyDeleteThat photo is so great! Also, although we disagree on the sob-festness (is that a word? I don't think it is. Anytime I ask 'is that a word?'- it never is) of Seven Pounds, I'm glad we CAN agree on "You are the Best thing" being the BEST SONG EVER.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great New Years lovely! All the best in '09!!
Happy New Year! A 30 Rock marathon is the best way to bring it in.
ReplyDeleteyou are adorable! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love the captions.
