on feeling crafty (once again)...

I'm baaaack!

I think that the madness of December got to me in more ways than one. For some reason, it sucked my creativity dry. I made so many things (and sold so many things!) during the holidays, that once January rolled around I was all, "Um, no. I'm fresh out of ideas. Empty and hollow. Sad, empty and hollow. Blerg."

Which is a little pathetic, considering the fact that I want to do this for a living. Not sure what that says about me, but hopefully the other creatives out there have experienced a dry spell of their own, and can understand what I mean. For a while, I kept getting out my supplies, all intent on making something. Then I'd just sit there staring at a bunch of thread and buttons and felt. Feeling completely uninspired. (And hollow, as I mentioned before.) I'd usually end up getting irritated with myself and would move to the couch to watch a bunch of episodes of Law and Order: SVU to distract myself from my failures. (Seriously, is that show ever not on? I love it.)

After a while I decided not to force it, and to take a few weeks off - without pressuring myself to be creative.

Aaaaand it worked. I stopped by Michael's for a few things today, and ended up finding a bunch of goodies that certainly sparked something within me. Jay and I were supposed to spend the day together, but due to mass amounts of rain (yes, it even rains in Southern California - although I'd nearly forgotten what it looks like at this point) we went our separate ways for the afternoon. He ended up going thrifting in LA, and I sat down to create. I listened to some awesome music, made myself a cup of delicious tea, opened the blinds to watch the rain outside, and made a bunch of new items for the shop.

It felt completely and entirely refreshing. I'm sure all of you know how that feels. After going a while without doing something that is truly a part of you - be it crafting, music, running, sports, painting - when you get back into it again, you feel more like yourself. Which I do. I feel more like myself. Back to normal, I guess. Which is nice.

  14. I really love those magnets! I bought the brown ones with pink buttons a little while back and I go back to school today and they were the first thing I packed up!! I can't wait to try them out on my little whiteboard/calendar. I might get some of these, too because I love the colors and because I'm obsessed. My mini fridge is gonna kick all the other mini fridge's butts.
