on cupcakes and babies...

I was going to do a slightly belated "work it out weekends" post, but it just wasn't happening. Plus, all I want to write about at the given time are cupcakes and babies, and I'm not sure that I would be able to incorporate either of those things into a post about health and wellness. (Although, I must say, both of those things are pretty conducive to anyone's general well-being. Necessary, even. I dare you to prove me wrong.)

So, cupcakes and babies. I'm a fan.

First of all, my sister and her husband welcomed Landon into the world on Friday evening! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and well wishes! It was an incredibly long day that ended in an emergency c-section, but both baby and mother are doing just fine. I was able to speak with my sister on Saturday, and she sounded so incredibly happy and content (and I'm fairly sure that wasn't only due to the pain meds). Since she ended up having the extra surgery, she is going to be in the hospital for a few extra days, and I decided to delay my visit to see them until next week. Still, I absolutely can't wait to see them all - especially Landon, so I can squeeze his mushy little baby body and smell that intoxicating baby smell and take approximately seven hundred photos. Yes, it shall be the trip of a lifetime.

And to continue the squishy baby news, my sister-in-law and her husband welcomed their third little baby into the world, too! Baby goodness all around! Salem (coolest name ever, right?) was born on Monday, and was welcomed by her mom, dad, sister and brother. Probably the cutest family ever, just to let you know. Jay and I are road tripping it up to visit them in Minnesota this March, and so I'm seriously going to get my fix of squishy babies, for sure. Ahhhh! So excited! My soul is officially warm and glowing!

(I'd post a bunch of photos, but I don't want to steal their thunder without asking first. Stay tuned.)

Also, to give you a wee bit of what my "work it out weekends" post would have been...I must say that I had an absolutely awesome week. I ran a couple times, and am finally getting back to the point where I truly feel comfortable running the nearly-three miles without wanting to crumple to the ground in the alley next to the dumpsters and the two guys who feel the need to smoke marijuana behind their house at 4:15PM. (Was that the longest sentence ever? Probably.)

I've been really positive lately, which I'm sure is a direct result of getting back into my whole exercise schedule. One thing that has improved is my food-guilt. One perk of exercise is that I feel so much less food-guilt. (Within reason, of course.) I can tell myself, "I've exercised the last five days. Heck, yes, I can eat this cupcake and feel happy doing so! Bring on the cupcakes! Yesss!" I'm not eating anything I want, whenever I want, but I'm able to treat myself without feeling like crap afterwards. And that, my friends, is an awesome thing. Case in point:

the worlds most delicious cupcake.

A cinnamon apple cupcake with cream cheese frosting = heaven.

yes, I sometimes eat cupcakes with a fork.

Yes, I eat cupcakes with a fork. It makes me feel sophisticated. Don't judge me.

in progress.

At this point, I'm sure Jay was questioning why I was taking photos of a half-eaten cupcake.

aaaand gone.

Aaaaaand scene.

  11. So the other night at church there is a 2-year-old (yes, TWO) and she sang the song 'Sisters' in its entirety and when she was done, without missing a beat, she started bowing and saying THANK YOU THANK YOU and it was positively the best thing I've ever seen. Your closing remark made me think of it. ;)
