on the side-pony, the millionaire, and my awkward ringtone...
So, today I was feeling random enough to rock the side-pony. (No, not the 80's version. I'm not that tacky, I swear. Mine is much less obvious, thank you very much.) I'm pleased to say I've made it through the day without any outward judgement being passed. In fact, there's something about the side-pony that makes me feel quirky and delightful.
It's ridiculous, really. But, it works.
I'm also feeling ridiculously optimistic today. It's interesting, because I feel most like myself when I'm in moods like this. For most of my life, I've been the girl with the perpetual smile. If it was absent, I was constantly harassed with objections. "Hey, why aren't you smiling?" "Woah. This is new." "WHAT'S WRONG?" Now, I know I've lost some of that as I've grown up a bit, but I still like that people usually expect me to be somewhat joyful. And today is like that. I do feel truly joyful. It's days like this when I feel lighter, in so many ways. The smile on my face comes easier, I have a better attitude about everything, I feel like everything truly is going to be okay. It's a good thing.
I suppose that all of this was working to my advantage today, apparently enough for me to be hit on by a millionaire. (No, I'm not kidding.) That's right! Mama's still got it! (I don't actually know why I called myself mama just then. Seemed like a good idea at the time, I guess. Don't judge me.) So, anyway, that was the highlight of my day. I enjoyed it. If anything, it's a good story to tell Jay when he gets home. Let's just hope he's impressed enough to buy me diamonds! (Jay, if you're reading this, I don't really want diamonds. But I could point out several things in the Anthropologie catalog that would make me totally happy...)
And on a slightly different note, I've started reevaluating my choice of ring tones. Things get pretty awkward when MMMBop starts blaring out of your phone in a seriously quiet post office. If they weren't judging me for the side-pony, they were certainly judging my musical preference.
This much I know.
You are so cute I almost can't stand it. I can totally see you rocking a side pony and looking good doing it. Rock on with your bad millionaire attention grabbin' self.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean with the smile. The kids I work with always tease me because I smile so much. Once, I snarkily told someone that MAYBE I was smiling because I am naturally pleasant (my tone of voice certainly did not reflect that).
ReplyDeletehaha awesome story. You're so adorable that I want to put you in my pocket. Yes, my pocket.
ReplyDeleteOK-I literally LOL'd at the thought of MMMBop going off in the post office! =)
ReplyDeleteAnd the side-pony, eh?? I bet that was cute! I might just have to give that a try. I have seen it on several other people, on TV I suppose, and I just know it looked cute on you!
Nooo, don't change MMMBop! It's a fabulous ringtone. But if you must, I seriously recommend the Doogie Howser theme song.
ReplyDeleteYou are just so stinkin cute. Seriously. Am I even allowed to say that seeing as how I am not that much older than you? Well, I am, and I mean it! Wishing you many more joy filled days!
ReplyDeleteOh man, your posts always make my day! I'm loving the side pony right now too- it's the new LC braid I think. As for awkward ringtones- I had "Baby it's You" by Jojo for the looooongest time. And was mortified everytime my phone rang.
ReplyDeleteBut liked it enough to keep it. ;)
First off, the side pony will never go out of style - rock it with pride. Second, nice job on the millionaire... Send him my way! (On second thought, just send ANY man my way). And third, MmmBop is and will forever be the greatest ringtone of all time. Don't let the haters win :)
ReplyDeleteI think we need to see a picture of the side-pony and yes, you need to tell Jay about the millionaire who hit on you so he will be jealous and buy you pretty things. :)
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Getting hit on by a millionaire makes for a good day! ...and I think the MMMBop ringtone would make me smile if I heard your phone go off. And I may giggle to myself, in that totally "I think that's a funy ringtone, but I am not judging you" kinda way. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting a picture of this hair do :D
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Anthropologie! We only have one store in St. Louis (that I know of) and it's huge and amazing!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting a picture too.
ReplyDelete..and the last time I wore a side pony tail somebody actually asked me, 'what's going on with this hair?' Apparently I can't pull off the side ponytail. Or maybe he was just some stupid boy.
Good work on the millionaire front! Side pony tails can really bring more into our lives than most people give them credit for.
ReplyDeleteHey...Just started reading your blog! It's so cute.
ReplyDeleteI would love to totally rock the side pony (subtle of course) but my hair is too short right now. Instead, I'm rocking the low pony.
PS- The Hanson ringtone. Love it.
I'm wearing a headband today and am kind of excited about it.
ReplyDeleteIt's off-white lace. Woohoo for fun hair styles (and...accessories.)
This blog post is like an elaboration of your tweets. Or, those tweets were a teaser or something.
Anyway. Jimaie sent me a Coldplay ringtone and I'm totally psyched about it. It sounds awesome. Even on my little Razor, oh, Google just told me it's spelled Razr. Huh.
Yes, we want pictures of the side pony! Don't deprive the Internet!
ReplyDeleteAwkward ringtone moments are the worst. Nothing like OUT TONIGHT from Rent going off in the middle of the office. Yea, she is a stripper singing, SO?
ReplyDeleteI've gotta see this side pony...picture! Hair gets so boring sometimes! I've been into handbands...a little too much :) The ring tone thing totally happens to me all the time (who am I kidding, I don't get that many phone calls..), I hate that!
ReplyDeletewhere did my comment go? oh blogger, you're so tricky. re-typing and remembering what you said in the first comment is always so hard. and i'm always nervous my first comment will mysteriously pop up after i leave this one. ohhh-kay. i think i've rambled enough. on with the comment!
ReplyDelete"That's right! Mama's still got it!"
you make me laugh, smile and giggle - always. seriously, no other blogger could refer to themself as mama, and have me laughing out loud at my screen. and i say that in the best way possible. because seriously, you are so damn adorable.
You. Are. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love the side-pony, of course you got hit on by a millionaire (it's only natural), and I always think it's important to evaluate your ringtones for moments just like the one you described.
:)
oooh i love rocking the side pony tail when my hair is longer, it's just so fun and spunky. as for mmmbop, i would totally rock it as a ring tone too, how can you not want to sing along to that song??
ReplyDeleteOooh I love working the side ponytail! Except my side pony is pretty short and needs a couple bobby pins. It's still there! GROW hair GROW!
ReplyDeleteyou are so funny!!! hehe. I love it. I'd love to see you rockin' the side pony, I bet it's adorable on you. I'd also love to see you rockin' MMMBop. In a post office. :)
ReplyDeletemy ringtone right now is the Linus and Lucy song by Vince Guaraldi. I'm not hip, like, at ALL. But I'm ok with that!
Ok. I just started reading your blog (been here just a few times) and I have to comment on the Hansonness.....I too was ridiculous in middle school and loved them! Taylor was plaster all over my wall and I just knew he was my future husband. lol Years later I still love them but no more 'in love.' (Still love to rock th Christmas album in the privacy of my own car)I actually met a girl with "MMMBop" tattooed on her foot!
ReplyDeleteAnway, that's enough about Hanson. Love your blog...
