on being randomly lucky...

I'm not really a lucky person. At least, not unusually so.

I'm always one of those people who is all, "Well, what the hey. I may as well enter this, even though I know I'm not going to win. Oh, and also because I'm bored. Oh, and also because I have dreams of being one of those cool people who actually wins something at some point in their lives. Oh, and because I really, really, really want what they're giving away." And here is my word of advice to all you people out there who have that same train of thought: KEEP ON ENTERING THINGS YOU DON'T THINK YOU WILL WIN. Because, friends? I totally won a Wii. And a Wii Fit.

Um, cue the happy dance? The happy dance that lasted a full thirty seconds after I found out, and covered the entire expanse of our duplex? (Apparently, our duplex is really small. Either that, or my happy dance is slightly too maniacal.)

Recently, La Petite Chic was holding a contest on her adorable blog where you could win a Wii and a Wii Fit (it was sponsored by Nintendo, nicely enough). I entered because, seriously, I've wanted a Wii forever. Ever since I saw those crazy commercials with the two guys who would go from house to house saying, "Wii would like to play." I was all, "WHY NOT ME? CHOOSE ME, RANDOM GUYS! I WANT TO PLAY!" But, no. They didn't pick me. Also, I think my husband and I had issues with shelling out hundreds of dollars for a gaming system. Even if it was pretty much the coolest gaming system in all the land. It ended up being one of those, "It's a want, not a need," things. You know, stuff like:

1. A Dyson vacuum.
2. TiVo.
3. An iPhone.
4. A brand new mattress; although, I feel this one is more of a need, considering ours seems a bit like something you find on some random street corner with a scary homeless man underneath it.
5. Curtains from Anthropologie. Actually, pretty much any home decor from Anthropologie. Except things that are on sale, because then I'm able to rationalize it. Obviously.

So, yes. It became a "want". And then they came out with the Wii Fit, only to torture me further. I want to do yoga on that cool little white board widget. Sign me up, nancy. Seriously, the Wii Fit is half the reason I wanted a Wii at all, last time I checked.

(Oh, and I did want to sit down and make Mii's of basically everyone I've ever known, met or dated. And every single character from Twilight, but I wasn't planning on telling anyone about that. Right. Moving on.)

So, anyway, I received the email yesterday letting me know I won, and my jaw literally dropped to the floor and the aforementioned happy dancing commenced. I am so ridiculously excited and thankful for such a wonderful gift! This is something we never would have splurged on, had it not been part of a giveaway such as this. Who needs a Christmas wish-list now? I feel like Christmas already came.

And, of course, my initial plan was to keep it a surprise from Jay until Christmas morning, at which point he would open it and think I spent $600 on this whole system and immediately serve me with divorce papers (just kidding, but not really). However, I couldn't possibly hold it in. I felt as though my head was going to explode. I can't keep anything from him, let alone something this thrilling. When I arrived home after work, I immediately spilled the beans. I think I said something along the lines of, "I'm seriously going to throw up if I don't tell you this super exciting thing that happened to me today!"

If only I was a better secret keeper. But, alas.

So, there's my incredibly amazing news - and guess what? The lovely Metalia is giving one away over at her blog, too! (I entered for that one last week, too, before I won this one.) So, go enter! Do it! You have until December 15th to enter.

Thanks again to La Petite Chic! Thanks again to the people at Nintendo whom I know nothing about and will probably never know but want to hug, just the same! And thanks to the man upstairs who decided that I should not only be given a ridiculously amazing tip and a Wii and a Wii Fit - all in one week!

Life is crazy sometimes, is it not?

PS: Now I get to cross off #10 on the list! And actually say that I won! Hurrah!

Now are you going to videoblog your yoga and lead online exercise classes for the rest of us? Because that would be all kinds of awesome.

  5. WHOO HOO! You are so lucky!!!

I won tickets to a bridal show a few months ago. I think they were worth $20 altogether but I still screamed and danced around my house and felt like a winner all week long.

  7. That's awesome! I was trying to buy my mom a Wii fit for Christmas but they are sold out EVERYWHERE (except EBay where you have to pay twice what it's worth....my mom is getting something else) :)

And, the Tivo has to be moved to the need category because it is the best invention ever and I believe every household needs one (or two)!

  8. What a lucky girl you are! You totally deserve it. I am just like you in that I can't keep good news or anything for that matter from Andrew. I feel like my head is going to explode if I don't say something to him. We have a Wii and love it. We don't have a Wii Fit yet, but hopefully we will get one soon.

  26. Congrats!! That is SO cool and such a great prize!

About the Mii's...my step-son has had his Wii for a couple of years and I just played for the 1st time recently and found out that I already had a Mii along with every other member of the family. HAHA! So apparently making Mii's is a popular thing to do...have no shame! =)
