on some good bits of my day...

Today has been a very good day.

First of all, to only make my love affair with Target all the stronger, I scored a deal on a new purse. Now, I've been in the market for a new purse for a while now, and nothing has really tickled my fancy. I'm a fan of purses with a bit of color, so I wanted to wait until I found something that really stood out.

I was browsing Target this afternoon, and decided to take a gander at their selection of purses and bags. This lovely purse caught my eye right away; large enough to keep all my whoosits and whatsits galore, a whole bunch of pockets and such, a pretty dark orange color, $22. Good enough, right? When I gave it the look-over, I was sad to notice a couple tiny black smudges on the back of the purse. It was the last one, though, and I really liked it. So, I added it to my basket and went up to pay.

At the check out, all it took was some quick thinking and fast talking on my part, and the checkout lady totally gave me a discount on the purse! I mentioned the scuffs, and that it was the last purse of this style. I asked if they ever gave discounts for that sort of thing. She didn't even answer me, gave me this grave stare, and began typing away on the register. At first I was thinking, "Calm down, nancy. No need to be snooty. You don't have to give me a discount." But then I noticed that she'd marked the purse down to $15. SWEET! I desperately looked around, trying to find someone to give a high-five to, but there was nobody.

I high-fived myself in my imagination. It worked out.

Other good things:

1. Wearing the most comfortable jeans in all of creation. Jay found these at a thrift store for around $10, if I remember correctly. They are Paper Denim & Cloth - a brand that I would never have the privilege of wearing without the goodness of thrifting. Jay brought these home a while back, and I wanted to see if they fit me before he decided to put them online to sell. And let me tell you, I'm so glad I did because they are the softest, most comfy jeans I've ever worn. Like buttah. You think I'm kidding. I assure you, I am not.

2. A perfectly ripe peach. Props to Von's for having some sweet produce. Props to me for managing to buy some on the perfect day of ripeness. (The last time I bought tangerines, they weren't ripe enough, but I'm entirely too impatient to wait for them to get softer. I ended up crunching on tangerines for about a week, much to my dismay. I was all, "IS THIS A TANGERINE, OR AN APPLE? MOTHER OF PEARL!")

3. Putting together etsy orders and some recent mail swaps. I love packaging things up, if we haven't covered this yet. It seriously makes me giddy.

4. Freshly done highlights! I adore my colorist, by the way. She is the most adorable thing you've ever seen, heard or talked to. Smelled, even. And to make matters even more adorable, she's seven months pregnant. I could hardly stand it! Anyway, she does my hair brilliantly, every time. I've come to the conclusion that although I have serious jealousy issues towards all you adorable brunettes out there, there is nothing that can possibly match the joy of getting fresh highlights. It's priceless. (Okay, wait. It's not priceless. How much did I spend again? Let's not think about that part...)

5. I get to spend some more time with Jay this evening. Apparently some random German movie is playing in LA? Yeah, not that thrilling to me, but I do get to see more of the husband - and get to go somewhere to show off my adorable new purse and good hair day. So, that's a good thing, eh?

What are some good things about your day?

  1. Love the purse! I have been eyeing one at Target as well - a deep red one. Plan on going early next week. Hope it is still there and deeply marked down.

Love the jeans too - they look super comfy!

  3. Cute purse! I love purse shopping, but I always have a hard time finding one that meets my needs. I am very particular--I want to it to be big enough to hold a book, but not so big that it swings too much. Anyhow, your jeans do look comfy!

  5. ohh I love the bag. And that is the one thing I miss from getting my hair colored at the salon, walking out and KNOWING you look fabulous. But I guess that's what I get for becoming cheap in my old age.

  7. Ah! Cute purse! I have the WORST luck with purses! I only see ones I love ON other people! LOL, and that isn't really helpful! Are you still swap-botting? I stopped for so long b/c i was getting all crappy stuff back, but I still find myself picking out cute things for random swaps every time I hit up Michaels or Target!

Ugg, and don't you HATE spending money on fruit then you get it home and it stinks! It's either too mushy, or too hard...yuck!

  11. LOVE the purse! I've been looking for a new one too, now that I ride the bus to work twice a week and need room for a book to read and a journal for lyrics and notes and all the other miscellany. I checked at Target the other day and definitely didn't see that one! Am jealous! I'm working retail and I've fallen in love with no less than 5 purses at the store, but even with my employee discount, I can't justify paying that much for a purse...

  12. I love 99% of everything about Canada but I think the worst thing about it is no Target. Luckily I just started going to school 2 minutes from the Detroit bride so Target runs will be a necessity!
The best part of my day... I'd say some late night food and drinks with some wonderful friends where we basically spent the whole time laughing hysterically.

  15. That purse is a great color for you! Man I love Target :)

Life would be so much better if there were a constant rotation of new purses.

I was wondering where you had landed on the brunette/blonde thing. Glad you're happy with your decision!

  17. I swear, you & I live parallel lives. I went to Target on the same day you did & found a dress. I was looking at purses, but didn't find any that tickled my fancy...

By the way, I love this outfit. :]

  19. Stop being so darn adorable.

    It's not fair.

(I totally admire your ability to score a discount. I fear I'd be too timid to ever attempt that. I'm inspired.)

    (Yay for Target bags.)

  20. Ditto on the Target bags...and I'm in major need of a new one too! And to answer your question!-I know it's the day after your post, but I just spent the past few days moving and finally am relaxing for a few mins (sifting through google reader!). Ok time to go back to non-relaxing...

  25. I also found some awesome Paper, Denim & Cloth jeans at a consignment store last year. They rocked my world completely for under $25.00 until I found a friend who looked even better in them than I did so I realized it was time to pass on the goodness. I miss them everyday.

  26. I love Target! I got tired of shopping for a purse and made my own - amazingly it turned out ok! I bought some shoes for $5 a while back and had the entire checkout line cheering when they rang up correctly! good times!

  29. Cute purse! Too funny that the clerk was all bent-out-of-shape about marking it down...it's not like it affected her paycheck or anything!

And I just got some comfy dumfy jeans myself...there's nothing better!
