on overdoing it...

school project.

I know what you're thinking.

It's just a simple class assignment, geeze. Overachiever much lately? Take an old box, somehow make it a representation of you, the only way you'll fail is if you don't turn it in, it's all open to interpretation. It's not really that intensive. But do you really expect me to take a creative homework assignment and NOT spend entirely too much work on it? Do you?

Apparently you don't know who you're dealing with.

After a couple hours of cutting, gluing and pondering, this is what I came up with. (Sorry about the photo quality. The blog layout always turns out wonky when I try to post something with alot of photos, so sometimes a girl has to resort to a mosaic.)

On the inside, I filled the box with things that represent what I hold dearest to my heart; my husband, my family, my friends. On the top I glued in a few things that I also hold close: my hopes and dreams, God, artistic expression and creativity, and childhood memories and joys. On the inside of the flaps, I wrote out every word I could think of that I believe describes me - as contradictory as they seem. You'd be surprised at just how many things describe you when you think about it. Everyone really has so many layers.

Around the outside, I made different sides represent different things that I think are most apparent to people when they meet me. Being a wife, my ready smile, my slight obsession with anything remotely crafty, my friendships with people. And, hey! Who said I'd never find a use for all those leftover wedding invitations? I totally used one on the "wifey" side - just added a cheesy pink heart and some sticker letters and VOILA!

The top is rather basic. Partially because I was getting burnt out, partially because I didn't want to use any more of my good scrapbooking supplies on a project that I will most likely throw away within the next year (no, really, I'll probably keep it that long because I'm a pack rat) and partially because CSI was on and I was too distracted to make it more interesting. It's cool paper, anyway.

Regardless, it was a fun project.

And I'm totally going to be embarrassed when 98% of the class shows up with an old shoebox filled with things they found while rummaging through a junk drawer. Oh, well. Can't say I didn't earn that A, right?
