on my new favorite thing...

Guess what came in the mail today?

Yes, indeed, it was my new camera. And I nearly kissed the UPS man on the mouth when he delivered it.

(I'm fully aware that I look like a greaseball in the photo; don't be hating. When I have to be to class at 8:00, I pretty much roll out of bed, put on some powder and find something decent to wear. Of this I am not proud.)

Now? I just have to figure out how to use the darn thing. It took me a while to get everything out of the box, and then I had to figure out how to attach the lens and put in the battery and turn it on and try to hold it without looking like a five year old. (I'm used to a teensie point and shoot.) My palms were getting sweaty when I started looking at the manual, so I had to put it away for a while. I don't do manuals. They don't speak to me at all. I'd rather figure things out by myself, or have someone else show me how to do something.

So, I'm expecting Ashley and Emily both to be over at my place in the next fifteen minutes. I will supply the 100 calorie pack Doritos and a bottle of cheap wine. You supply the endless photography knowledge. Tempting, right? Okay, go.

Anyway, I also found a whole bunch of photos on the memory card I need to use for this camera, that were taken on my last birthday, in August. I haven't looked at the photos on there since, because it was in my first digital camera, and I have recently taken ownership of Jay's camera, so that one was just left in a random box in our closet.

There are some good photos on there, though. Makes me laugh.

The evening may or may not have been spent at my favorite local Irish bar. I may or may not have enjoyed several shots with names that would make my grandma blush. I may or may not have annoyed the heck out of my husband, who was a peach for driving the besties and I around. (Note the look on his face as I decided to do a photo shoot in the car on the drive home. I'm all, "KISS ME IF YOU LOVE ME!" He's all, "Um, yeah, I'm driving. Thanks, though.")

Ah, yes. It was a good birthday.

  8. Aww, you look good even as a greaseball! [That's my normal morning routine, don't knock it.]

That picture is PRICELESS. It's funny!! :)

I'm slightly jealous of your new camera.

  9. Awe the new camera! So exciting =)

Manuals suck. Especially Ikea manuals. There are 85 parts, and 2 pictures to show you how to put it together. It always makes me laugh (before I start crying in frustration).

Oooh, and I love the birthday picture. Hah. So cute.

  10. New camera! Congratulations. (I feel that if I congratulate people on having babies or getting married, I should give congrats on new cameras- which, can be just as exciting). I'm with you on not using manuals. I'm the poster girl for trial and error. I can't wait to see some pictures!

  11. that's awesome your camera has arrived!!! i have the same one! i have read the manual and it was helpful. the only other lens i have right now is my 50mm f/1.8. i'm renting a 35mm for this weekend though. oh, i can't wait to see what you do with your new camera!!! whoooohoo for you!

  12. Congratulations on your new camera! I just bought on May 31st, and I felt the same way when I opened the box. It was such an adrenaline rush. :-)

You should buy Vols 1 and 2 of Scott Kelby's Digital Photography books. They are really informative, and easy to read.
