on being sick...

Apparently I have the stomach flu?

Gah. So miserable.

I was up all night last night, the whole time wondering where this came from. I kept wanting to scream, "OKAY. MY STOMACH IS EMPTY NOW AND HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST SIX HOURS. WE CAN BE DONE ALREADY." It's been years since I've been sick like that.

I remember the last time, though - I think I was about thirteen. Being nauseous is the worst thing in the world, for some reason. I remember thinking back then, "Just punch me in the face. Shave my entire head. Throw me off a bridge. ANYTHING BUT THIS FEELING AHHHHH." My mom was there to smooth my hair and say, "Now, now. I understand. You'll feel better soon."

Last night, the husband was out until about 2AM - which was okay; I'd rather him not have to be subjected to the sounds of the flu, if you know what I mean. But when he got home, he found me sleeping on the floor of the bathroom, curled up in a ball. (For some reason, a place where I would never want to sleep under normal conditions, becomes the most comfortable place when I'm sick. Except now I have a killer backache. Anyway.) Jay said he'd carry me to bed if that's what it took, but I was able to stumble to the bedroom. He got me tucked into bed and tried to make me feel better. Tried to rub my tummy but it hurt too much.

I was up all night, not sleeping much, and was a complete mess this morning. When he got up to go to school this morning, he asked me if I wanted him to call my manager at work and let her know I wouldn't be in. That little thing made me want to burst out crying. He kissed my forehead and made sure I had a glass of water before he left. He said he would come home right after school, but I told him he shouldn't have to miss the barbecue tonight with all his film fest friends. I'm just going to be sleeping and/or wallowing in self pity anyway.

Still, it felt good to be taken care of.

Right now? My entire body aches and I suspect I have a fever, but for some reason, the thermometer is always MIA whenever I need it. Isn't that the way it goes? Seriously.

I hate being sick.

  1. Hey, I'm also sick! Sore throat, body aches and congestion! Fun! I also hate being sick. It's just so freaking fatiguing....

  2. I hope you feel better soon! I used to get sick like that a lot in college (all the germs.. blegh) not a fun feeling. If you go to the doctor, he can give you a shot for the nausea (I am petrified of needles but would make Cale drive me to get on whenever I got sick like that).

  3. Awww!!! You poor thing! Having the stomach flu is the worst thing of all time. I'm so sorry! I hope you get better real soon and that your hubby keeps taking good care of you! Poor girlie!

  4. Aw yeah I'm feeling pretty crappy today too, seriously I blame the weather.

  5. Oh no! The flu is SO icky! And isn't it strage how throwing up makes you feel like a kid again? I got that same "nostalgia" feeling when i had the flu in february (with the rest of the worlds population). Get better soon! And take the hubs up on any nurturing/caring/taking-care-of that he offers!

  6. Creepy. I got food poisoning just the other day, you'll have to read all about it at my blog... =) Haha...amazing how we lead such parallel lives...

  7. The flu is no fun at all. Hope you get better quickly!

  8. Yet you still found time to blog about it. That, my friends, is dedication.

At least you're going to 'effing win the Self Portrait challenge!! Doesn't some cute etsy cheer a girl up? :)

    Hope today is better.
