on the film-fest and some good news...

I hate feeling like such a bitter critter all the time, and don't know why I can't just roll with the punches more often. When I react to things a certain way, I hate the way I'm reacting, but at the same time I can't seem to stop myself. It's irritating. I'm working on it. No promises, but I am working on it.

The film festival ended up being fun last night; aside from feeling entirely over-dressed for most of it.

me: "What should I wear?"
Jay: "A dress."
me: "Really? So, I shouldn't bring extra clothes to change into?"
Jay: "No, you'll be fine."

After arriving to film festival wearing my default black dress and heels:

Jay's friend/fellow intern (clad in board shorts and a t-shirt): "Dude, why are you guys so dressed up?"
me: (giving Jay the stink eye.)
Jay: "What? Nobody told me."

At least my hair looked good. I always feel like I can mostly pull off whatever I'm wearing as long as my hair looks good.

Anyway, Jay introduced the film to a theatre of about 400 (so proud!), and we watched this rather depressing, yet well-made, German film. (And after the the film, we went to the after party and there were people dressed up there, so I didn't feel like that much of a shlump.) Jay did well introducing me to absolutely everyone we spoke with, so that made me happy. Everyone was very nice...and you can't really go wrong at a party with goodie bags, an open bar and free catering. Aside from the fact that the DJ felt the need to play classy numbers such as Baby's Got Back and basically the entire Ricky Martin CD, it was a good time. I was glad to have some extra Husband Time. I hate when he's so busy. I think that it makes me more argumentative, actually. I'm like a hyperactive seven year old; I'll act out to get negative attention because it's, well, attention. Did I mention I'm nearly twenty-four? God save me.

Oh, and good news, peeps:

I GET TO GET A NEW CAMERA AHHHHH! Yesterday, I gave my husband a proposition. Since we could purchase his new video camera with the extra $1200 we're getting back in tax money or whatnot (the lovely Rachel pointed this out to me in response to a previous post), why can't we get me a new camera with just a smidge of our regular tax return - which was quite hefty this year? His answer?

"I guess we can do that for you."

Yes, indeed, I nearly did a cartwheel in the mall food court. And now? I'm going to do some serious research and find me a new lovely digital SLR camera. Pros? Cons? Recommendations? Discuss.

  1. Well, it's better to be overdressed than underdresesd! I bet you looked beautiful.

Hee- I like your analyzation of the hyperactive seven year old. I totally know what you mean. I've been so argumentative this past weekend. Bad Sarah. I know that I can be a brat. See, this is why we need married friends, so we can discuss this stuff!

Congrats on getting a new camera!!! Very exciting!!!! But now we won't have the same camera. Boo. Even though you hate ours! ha. Well, ours is almost the same, I think you have the 400 and I have the 800. But not for long-- YAY for you!!! That's awesome. Can't wait to see the pics you'll take with it.

  2. I'm so glad I have people whose blogs I can read and totally relate. I too was acting like quite the brat last week, and not only that but was equally as stubborn and refused to admit I was acting that way. I agree though, I hate when I act that way and in hating myself I act even worse. It is a new week though, and a new outlook is on the horizon. I'm hoping a good dose of yoga this week can set me back on track.

Yay for the new camera though! That is exciting! I can't wait to see all your new pictures as you experiment with the new toy.

  4. My friend just got the Nikon D40, and she LOVES it. I'm lusting for a better camera, too...I'll look forward to seeing what you get.

Sophia Loren says that it is far better to overdress or underdress than to dress like everyone else. I'm sure you were stunning and memorable!!

  5. Oh! A new camera for you! That is so great! I got a Canon Powershot s5-IS and I love it! It has a really good zoom, and you don't have to have all the different lens attatchments. It is supposed to be professional grade for regular peeps. Here is a link: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=15207

Good luck finding just the right one for you! Oh yeah, and I love the stink eye, and I especially love when they GET that I am giving them the stink eye! LOL

  6. You can't go wrong with the Canon Rebel xTi. I love mine, and the price has been dropping significantly since they're coming out with a new model. I would recommend buying just the camera and getting a slightly better lens than the one that comes in the kit though.

  7. Oooh congrats on the new camera! That's exciting.

And I'd much rather be a little bit over dressed that overly under dressed, if that makes any sense, haha.

  8. I agree with Sarah Marie, better to be overdressed.

Yay new camera! I'm a canon girl, but tell us what you decide, that is so exciting!!!! I started with a rebel and it was great, but eventually out grew it, so it really depends on how much money you have to spend, but it was a great dslr to start.

    glad you had fun!

and um, go me on my brilliant idea! i'm so jealous... instead of shopping for a DSLR, i'll be getting $1200 worth of body work on my car. wtf. keep us all posted on your search for a camera!

  12. Since you have so many different opinions on a camera, I thought I would let you know msn.com has an article on their main page about picking out the best digital cameras. Might help.
