on my better half...

My husband. He's quite the guy.

It's funny because when I first met him, he was just that funny guy at work who didn't seem to notice me. For months, I had this secret little crush on him and I had this repressed anger against Disneyland (yeah, NOT working there anymore, btw) for making us wear perhaps the most unflattering uniforms (or, "costumes") ever designed by some designer on crack. I mean, come on, pinafores? Mint green stripes and puffy sleeves? On a 19 year old, let alone some overweight 40-something? Yeah. Anyway. Even though I was never really showing my best side physically, something must have worked. I remember one day I was working as a cashier- a couple months before we even began dating - and he had come into the park with some of his family. I was all smiling and acting all happy with the customers ("guests", whatever) and trying to act oblivious to the fact that he was sitting in the corner looking incredibly sexy in his t-shirt and shorts. Nice.

Anyway, one day after we were dating, I mentioned that day, and he sort of laughed.

"What? Why are you laughing?"

"Well, it's kind of funny," he said. "I actually pointed you out to my brother that day."

"WHAT? Are you serious? I was completely convinced that you weren't even aware of my existence at that point."

"Yeah..." he said, smiling, "I pointed you out and said, 'That's the girl I'm going to marry.'"

Isn't that the greatest story of all time? I'm going to tell it to my children and they will smile and be happy and laugh with me and then years later get really tired of it and tell me to just stop telling it because it isn't cute after hearing it every week of their lives. But, ah, I will enjoy it. (I'm thinking of also editing the story to where he and I met while I was Cinderella and he was Prince Charming - but only if I have daughters. Please, God, let me have daughters.) It never ceases to make me smile, though, because it makes me feel like in some small way, I have my own fairy tale.

And every girl deserves to feel like that

  1. I decided to go back in time and read a little of your blog history. This entry is so sweet :) Husband sounds like quite a guy!

  2. I also decided to go back and read! You're so lucky you have a cute story like that!
